Mali at the fruit logistica fair in Germany: Towards an increase in the volume of fruit and vegetable exports!

The Fruit Logistica trade fair is one of the largest commercial events in the world for the fruit and vegetable sector. It takes place regularly once a year at Messe Berlin (Germany). The 29th edition in which Mali took part took place from April 5 to 7, 2022. The organization of participation was provided by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, through its two (02) management structures. trade support, in this case the Integrated Framework Implementation Unit (Umoci) and the Mali Export Promotion Agency (Apex-Mali), in partnership with the Embassy of Mali in the Federal Republic of Germany and the Mango Interprofession of Mali (IFM).

The Fruit Logistica Fair offers participants a complete overview of the fruit and vegetable market through all levels of production and distribution of these products. It brings together the major global players in the trade as well as the Small and Medium Enterprises of the fruit and vegetable value chain.

Consolidate business relationships with traditional customers, particularly those in the European Union; present the diversity, richness and quality of exportable national production of fruits and vegetables; increasing market share and diversifying outlets and learning about the latest trends in the fruit and vegetable market are the objectives of this show.

Led by Dansinè Coulibaly, National Coordinator of the Integrated Framework Implementation Unit (Umoci) and Mr. Karim Togola, Deputy Director General of the Mali Export Promotion Agency (Apex-Mali), the Malian delegation was composed of nine (09) exhibitors and two (02) professional visitors, as well as six (06) supervisors including four from Apex Mali and two from Umoci.

The products on display at the Mali stand were fresh mango, dried mango, mango jam and green bean. The stand attracted many visitors interested in the Malian mango thanks to its qualities related to taste and smell.

Mali’s participation took place in the best possible conditions with the support of the Embassy of Mali in the Federal Republic of Germany, which welcomed the Malian delegation from the airport.

On Wednesday, April 6, 2022, Her Excellency Mrs. Seck Oumou Sall, Ambassador of Mali to the Federal Republic of Germany, visited Sand du Mali. She was accompanied by the second counselor of the Embassy. Following this visit, the Ambassador discussed with the delegation the opportunities offered by Mali’s participation in this major event. His Excellency expressed his availability for the search for partners for the development of the mango sector in Mali.

It should be remembered that, since 2008, Umoci has supported mango exporters at the Fruit Logistica Fair, through the payment of rental costs for the Mali exhibition stand, and the communication of Mali’s participation in the said Fair. In 2011, Umoci broke the record by supporting 24 private actors including exporters and representatives of trade support structures.

To support Mali’s participation in this edition of Fruit Logistica 2022, Umoci has covered the costs related to the rental and fitting out of a 30m2 exhibition stand.

The various participations in the Fruit Logistica Fair have contributed to a large extent to the increase in the volume of mango exports through the contacts established by the participants with the trading partners of Europe in recent years.

From 2017 to 2022, Malian mango exports have increased to the European Union. The total quantities exported are 38,188 tons from 2017 to 2022 and the turnover generated is more than 18 billion CFA francs, in the same period, which is quite considerable for the country’s trade balance.

It should also be noted that the mango is Mali’s leading export fruit with a production potential of more than 500,000 tonnes. Mali has more than 80 varieties of mango and the export of mangoes from Mali has generated more than 100 billion CFA francs from 2010 to now.

Mali’s participation in this 29th edition of the Fruit logisticia 2022 exhibition is expected to increase the volume of fruit and vegetable exports through the conclusion of fruitful partnership agreements and the contacts that will be established by the participants; intentions of partnerships, established or signed commercial contracts and establish other contacts for the promotion of added value by emphasizing more transformation at the national level.
